Ideas flying around the room, many conversations happening simultaneously, women stepping up to volunteer for multiple jobs … this was the scene in the Habitat for Humanity of Washington County (HFHWC) boardroom last Tuesday as a group of 18 women came together to begin planning the 2015 Women Build project.  Every one of these women are strong, successful women and I for one can’t wait to see what they accomplish as a team.

Nationwide 70% of all Habitat homes have a woman at the helm.  Here in Washington County AR that statistic is a bit higher, closer to 90% of our homeowners are single mothers.  In an effort to bring awareness to the number of hard-working, capable women in our community who are struggling to provide for their families, HFHWC is planning a Women Build Project for the fall of 2015.  Our goal is to have the funds raised and be breaking ground by the end of August so that we can have our family in their new home for the holidays.

There will be numerous opportunities to get involved over the next year.  Be sure to watch for updates on this project.
