Volunteer of the Month - October 2016
Thank you for 16 Years of Service to Habitat for Humanity!
David Walton lived in the Fayetteville area for 11 years. In that time he has worked on each and every home Habitat for Humanity has built. Prior to that he spent 5 years building homes with Habitat in Oklahoma. We are honored to recognize him as our Volunteer of the month for October 2016.
In his own words:
I chose Habitat because I don’t like office work, so my volunteer choices were limited plus I know how to hammer a nail and run power tools, but primarily because I believe in what Habitat does. Giving people a chance to own a home who would never have that chance without Habitat for Humanity. I like the fact that people are selected very carefully and are given free classes to help ensure they will be successful home owners. Habitat does a good job of selecting and training partner families, as is evidenced by the small number of homes returned in the 11 years I have been here. I also like the fact that it is not a handout, that the family is expected to put volunteer time into Habitat and pay a mortgage to cover the cost of the homes. This gives them “ownership” of their home.
Our construction staff has always known they can count on Mr. Walton whether building a new home or helping with repairs for our homeowners. We are blessed to have him as a member of our Habitat family!
